Best Halloween Events in Orlando 2026: Haunted Houses, Theme Parks & After-Dark Experiences

Orlando does Halloween on a ridiculous scale.

By late August, the city starts changing. Haunted houses open, scare zones take over theme parks, kids start trick-or-treating around Magic Kingdom and attractions throughout Central Florida stay open long after sunset.

And you don't have to spend every Halloween night inside a theme park.

For 2026, you've got everything from Universal's huge horror productions to family Halloween parties at Disney and SeaWorld, plus some very different experiences farther into Kissimmee and the Florida wetlands.

If you're trying to decide what is actually worth adding to your trip, these are the Orlando Halloween events I'd have on the list.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando

If we're talking pure scale, Halloween Horror Nights is the obvious place to start.

Universal turns much of Universal Studios Florida into an entire nighttime horror event with haunted houses, scare zones, live entertainment and separately ticketed admission. Universal's official HHN site is already live for the 2026 season.

What makes HHN different from walking through a normal local haunted house is the production behind it.

Universal regularly builds houses around recognizable horror properties alongside original concepts. There's something very different about walking into an environment based on a horror story you've already watched from the safety of your couch.

Then suddenly you're standing inside it.

And you're definitely not just going through one haunted house and leaving. The entire night becomes part of the experience.

Best for

Hardcore horror fans, groups of friends, people who love horror movies and anyone who wants the biggest Halloween production possible.

Things I'd know before going

Crowds can become a huge part of the experience, especially as Halloween gets closer. Universal also sells upgrades including R.I.P. Tours and behind-the-scenes experiences, so there are ways to make the night easier if you're willing to spend more.

I wouldn't personally plan much else for the same night. HHN is the type of event I'd treat as the main event rather than something you squeeze in after dinner.

The Terror 2 at Boggy Creek

This one is very different from everything above.

The Terror 2 at Boggy Creek takes place at Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures in Kissimmee, and instead of keeping you inside one haunted building, the experience moves you through multiple environments around the property and Florida wetlands.

The 2026 event runs on Saturdays from September 19 through October 31 from 7 PM to 11 PM.

The main $60 Terror Combo includes a 30-minute nighttime airboat ride, haunted military truck tour and haunted trail.

Then there's Survive the Swamp, which is a separate interactive blaster experience.

This is where things get a little less traditional.

Instead of just walking through while actors scare you, you're actually participating. You grab a blaster and fight your way through an arena while characters come after you. Boggy Creek currently lists Survive the Swamp as a separately ticketed experience from the main Terror Combo.

What makes it different

The setting is the big thing for me.

You're actually starting part of the experience out on the water after dark. Boggy Creek sits along the Florida wetlands near Lake Tohopekaliga, so the darkness isn't being created with black curtains and a fog machine. You're actually outside.

Then you go from an airboat to a military transport, onto a haunted trail and potentially into an interactive blaster game.

There aren't many Halloween attractions around Orlando where that sentence makes sense.

Best for

Teenagers, groups of friends, couples and people who have already done the big theme-park Halloween events and want something different.

Personally, this is probably the one I'd bring teenagers and a group of friends to. It has more interaction than simply walking from haunted house to haunted house.

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Not every Halloween event in Orlando is trying to make you regret leaving your hotel.

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the family-friendly side of Halloween at Walt Disney World.

For 2026, Disney is holding the party at Magic Kingdom on select nights from August 7 through October 31, with the event running from 7 PM to midnight. Party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4 PM.

Instead of haunted houses and scare actors, the night focuses on trick-or-treating, costumes, Disney characters, Halloween entertainment, parades and fireworks.

If you're traveling with younger kids, this makes infinitely more sense than throwing them straight into HHN.

Best for

Families with younger children, Disney fans, costumes, trick-or-treating and people who want Halloween without intense scares.

Things I'd know before going

It is separately ticketed, so don't assume regular Magic Kingdom admission automatically gets you into the party. Disney currently lists 2026 party tickets from $119 to $229 before tax depending on the date.

I'd also plan the night before arriving. Five hours sounds like plenty of time until you're trying to fit attractions, candy, characters, a parade and fireworks into the same evening.

Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando

If you want actual horror but don't necessarily want to spend the night at Universal, Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando is the other major scary event I'd look at.

For 2026, Howl-O-Scream runs on select nights from September 11 through October 31. Gates open at 6:30 PM and the event begins at 7 PM. It requires separate admission from normal daytime SeaWorld entry.

SeaWorld is combining haunted houses and scare zones with its thrill rides at night. For 2026, SeaWorld says the event includes five haunted houses, six scare zones, five themed bars and two live shows.

That's the appeal to me.

You can spend part of the night getting scared, then jump onto a roller coaster, then walk straight into another scare zone.

Best for

Thrill-ride fans, adults, couples and groups who want a traditional scary Halloween event but want something other than HHN.

SeaWorld Spooktacular

SeaWorld basically has two completely different personalities during Halloween season.

During the day, there's SeaWorld Spooktacular.

The 2026 event runs on select dates from August 29 through November 1 and includes trick-or-treating, costumes and Halloween characters. SeaWorld says the event is included with normal park admission.

Then nighttime hits and Howl-O-Scream takes over on its event nights.

So make sure you're looking at the correct event when buying tickets or planning your day.

Best for

Young kids, families already planning a SeaWorld day and anyone who wants Halloween without being chased through a haunted house.

Which Orlando Halloween Event Should You Choose?

There really isn't one answer.

If I wanted the biggest horror production possible, I'd start by looking at Halloween Horror Nights.

If I were bringing small children, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or SeaWorld Spooktacular would make much more sense.

If I wanted haunted houses mixed with roller coasters, I'd look at Howl-O-Scream.

And if I'd already done the theme parks and wanted something that actually feels like Florida, The Terror 2 at Boggy Creek is the oddball on the list in a good way: airboats, wetlands, military transports and an interactive blaster arena instead of another traditional theme-park environment.

For a longer Orlando trip, I actually wouldn't make this an either/or decision.

Do one of the major theme-park events one night, then try one of the smaller Central Florida Halloween attractions on another.

That's a much better way to see how different Halloween around Orlando can get.

Don't Ignore Halloween Outside the Theme Parks

One of the easiest mistakes to make when planning an Orlando trip is assuming everything worth doing has to be somewhere between Disney and Universal.

It doesn't.

Once you start moving farther into Kissimmee and other parts of Central Florida, you find smaller attractions and seasonal events that can feel completely different from the major parks.

They also give you a night where you aren't spending five straight hours walking through a theme park.

For visitors staying here several days, I think that's worth considering.

A theme park might give you the enormous production.

A smaller attraction can give you the weird story you actually remember from the trip.

When Should You Visit Orlando for Halloween?

If you have flexibility, don't automatically wait until Halloween weekend.

September gets overlooked.

The major Halloween season is already underway at Disney by August, while SeaWorld's Halloween events begin in late August and September. Boggy Creek's Terror 2 begins September 19.

That gives you plenty of opportunities to make a Halloween trip before the final week of October.

And remember: it's still Florida.

Even in September and October, you'll probably spend a lot of these events outdoors, so check the forecast before leaving and plan around rain when possible.

Also, wear actual shoes.

This sounds like painfully obvious advice until you're three hours into walking around a theme park and wondering why you left the hotel wearing flip-flops.

My Take

What makes Orlando's Halloween season interesting isn't that there is one incredible event.

It's that you can have completely different Halloween nights without leaving Central Florida.

One night can be enormous movie-quality haunted houses at Universal.

Another can be trick-or-treating at Magic Kingdom.

Another can be riding across the Florida wetlands after dark before climbing onto the back of a military truck.

That's why I wouldn't build a Halloween trip around just one attraction.

Pick the type of night you want, leave enough time to actually enjoy it and don't assume the biggest event is automatically the right event for everyone.
