You set up your Google Business Profile, you can see it when you search your business name, and you send the link to a friend. They can't find it.
"Why is my Google Business Profile only visible to me" is one of the most searched questions about profiles, and the answer is almost always the same: Google hasn't verified it yet.
Why you can see it and customers can't
When you're signed in to the Google account that manages a profile, Google shows it to you so you can edit it. That doesn't mean it's public. Customers only see a profile once Google has verified that the business is real, where it says it is, and that you're allowed to manage it.
So the first question is: is it verified?
How to check
- Sign in to the Google account that owns the profile. Make sure it's the right account; if you're signed in to a different one, you won't see the real status.
- Open your profile at business.google.com or by searching your business name.
- Look for a "Get verified" button or a message about verification.
If you see "Get verified", the profile isn't verified yet. If you see "Review issues", Google looked at your verification (often a video) and rejected it, and it usually tells you why. If it says verification is in review, you're waiting on Google; that can take up to five business days.
The common reasons it stays private
It was never verified. The profile was created but the verification step was skipped or abandoned. Start it again.
The video was rejected. Google's reviewer couldn't confirm your location, that the business exists, or that you run it. We wrote a full guide to what Google wants in a verification video.
It's back in review after an edit. Changing your business name, address or category can send a verified profile back into review. Make one change at a time and leave it alone while Google looks.
It's suspended. A suspended profile disappears for everyone. You'll usually see a message on the profile and get an email. That's a different process from verification.
You're looking at a duplicate. If you or someone else created two profiles for the same business, you may be looking at the unverified one. Search your business on Google Maps while signed out (or in a private window) and see what comes up.
What to do next
If it just needs verifying, start the verification again and follow Google's instructions exactly. If it keeps failing, Google can have a real person review the business by hand, but that review only goes well with the right documents: a business registration or license, and a utility bill, lease or invoice where the name and address match your profile exactly.
If you'd rather hand the whole thing off, our done-for-you setup gets your profile verified and set up right, for one flat price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can I see my Google Business Profile but customers can't?
Google shows a profile to the people who manage it even before it's verified. Customers only see it once Google verifies the business.
How do I know if my Google Business Profile is verified?
Sign in to the Google account that owns it and open the profile. A "Get verified" button means it isn't verified yet. "Review issues" means Google rejected a verification attempt.
Can editing my profile make it disappear?
Changing your business name, address or category can send a profile back into review. Make one change at a time and give Google time to review it.
