Orlando with a toddler works best when you plan one thing a day, keep it short, and stop before the nap. These are the places that suit ages 1 to 4.
The quick pick
- First animals: Mini Moo Land. Pet and hand-feed Highland cows in Kissimmee, 10% off through us. (I'm Boggy Creek's marketing manager; Mini Moo Land is part of it.)
- Rainy or hot day: SEA LIFE Orlando.
- Best theme park for this age: LEGOLAND Florida and its DUPLO Valley.
Animals
- Mini Moo Land. Small, calm and outdoors, so a toddler can go at their own pace.
- SEA LIFE Orlando. Indoors, dim and cool on I-Drive, with fish at a toddler's eye level. It's a good length for short attention spans.
Play
- Crayola Experience. Indoor and hands-on at The Florida Mall, with a toddler area. Plan on a few hours, or less with a very little one.
- LEGOLAND Florida. DUPLO Valley is built for ages 2 to 5, with a gentle train, a tractor ride and splash play. It's about an hour from Orlando, in Winter Haven. Our LEGOLAND guide covers tickets.
- Peppa Pig Theme Park. Next to LEGOLAND, with gentle rides for preschoolers.
Quiet and outdoors
- Chocolate Kingdom. A short factory tour with tastings. Best for ages 3 and up who will sit still for a bit.
- Blue Spring State Park. Boardwalks are stroller friendly, and manatees gather there from about November to March. See where to see manatees.
Disney and Universal with a toddler
You can do both, but most toddlers won't meet the height rules for many rides. Pick the rides that have no minimum height, take a midday break at the hotel, and use a stroller even if your child usually walks.
Ask about each park's ticket age when you book. Rules differ: at some parks children under 3 don't need a ticket, and at others they do.
Tips
- Mornings are best. Be at the gate early, and out before the heat and the nap.
- Bring snacks, water and sun protection, plus a change of clothes for any splash area.
- Check height limits before you promise a ride.
- Plan one big thing a day. A pool afternoon counts as a full day for a two-year-old.
