You did everything Google asked. Now your profile just sits there: verification pending, or a Get verified button that keeps coming back.

Here's what's normal, what isn't, and what to do.

How long Google verification takes

Google says reviews take up to 5 business days, and on rare occasions longer. That clock starts when you finish the verification step (upload the video, finish the call, enter the code), not when you created the profile.

If you chose postcard verification, the timing is different: Google says most codes arrive within 14 days, and codes expire after 30 days.

What not to do while you wait

  • Don't edit your business name, address or category. For postcard verification, Google warns the code won't work if you do. For other methods, big edits can send the profile back into review.
  • Don't request a new postcard code. It cancels the one already in the mail and makes the process longer.
  • Don't submit a second video while the first is still being reviewed.
  • Don't create a new profile to start over. Duplicates cause bigger problems than waiting.

How to check your status

Sign in to the Google account that owns the profile. If you're signed in to a different account, you won't see the real status. Then look at your profile:

  • Pending or in review: wait out the 5 business days.
  • Review issues: Google looked and rejected it, and usually says why. Fix exactly those things.
  • Get verified is back: Google couldn't finish verifying you. Google's advice is to try again, and to try another method if it offers more than one.

Google also has a verification status tool in its Business Profile help center that shows where each of your profiles stands.

When it's been longer than a week

If the 5 business days have passed and nothing has changed:

  1. Confirm you're signed in to the account that owns the profile.
  2. Check the email inbox for that Google account, including spam, for a message from Google.
  3. If Get verified is showing, start again and pick a different method if one is offered.
  4. If you keep getting rejected or nothing moves, Google can review a business by hand with documents like a utility bill from the last few months and your business registration, where the name and address match the profile exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Google Business Profile verification take?

Google says reviews take up to 5 business days, and on rare occasions longer. Postcard codes usually arrive within 14 days and expire after 30.

Why does the Get verified button keep coming back?

Google says it means it couldn't completely verify your business. Try again, and try a different method if Google offers one.

Can I edit my profile while verification is pending?

Avoid it. For postcard verification, Google warns that editing your name, address or category stops the code from working. Requesting a new code also cancels the one in the mail.
