Not everyone can film a verification video. Maybe there's no sign out front yet, you work from home, or the video just keeps getting rejected. So people search for how to verify a Google Business Profile without a video.
The honest answer: you don't get to choose. But you do have options.
Google picks your verification method
Google's help page says verification methods are automatically determined by Google and can't be changed. What you're offered depends on your business type, public information about your business, your region and your business hours. Some businesses need more than one method.
The methods Google uses:
- Phone or text: Google calls or texts your business number with a code. Google notes that automated phone menus (IVR systems) won't get the code, so the number has to reach a person.
- Email: Google sends steps to an email address shown on the verification screen.
- Live video call: a call with a Google rep, only during your business hours, where you show your location and proof you run the business.
- Video recording: a 30-second-plus live clip, the one most people are trying to avoid.
- Postcard: a code by mail. Most arrive within 14 days and expire after 30.
- Instant verification: if you've already verified your website in Google Search Console, Google can sometimes verify your profile instantly.
How to get a different option
Check every option on the screen. When you click Get verified, Google sometimes shows more than one method. If you see more than one, Google says you can try another.
Try again after a failed attempt. If Get verified comes back, Google couldn't finish verifying you, and the options it shows next time may be different.
Verify your website in Search Console. If you have a website, verifying it in Google Search Console is worth doing anyway, and it can open up instant verification.
Make your public info consistent. Since Google bases the methods partly on public information, make sure your business name, address and phone match on your website and other listings.
If video is your only option
Then make it count. Google's reviewer needs to see where you are, that your business exists, and that you run it. Our video verification guide covers exactly what to film, including for businesses without a storefront.
If nothing is working
When the normal methods keep failing, Google can review a business by hand using documents such as a recent utility bill and your business registration. It's the least known path and the one we use most. Our done-for-you setup handles it for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I verify my Google Business Profile without a video?
Sometimes. Google decides which methods to offer based on your business type, public information, region and hours. If more than one method appears, you can try another. Verifying your website in Search Console can sometimes enable instant verification.
Can I choose postcard verification instead of video?
Only if Google offers it. Google says verification methods are automatically determined and can't be changed.
Why didn't I get the verification code by phone?
Google says automated phone systems (IVR) won't get the code. The business number needs to reach a person who can hear or read the code.
